How can I know East or West if some one for eg. says start going West on the Clinton Street? Pls advise.?

Many street signs have a directional notation. Say for instance that if you are in the 1000 block of west Sepulveda. the sigh will say W. Sepulveda blvd.





Of course there is always the old stand bye... The sun sets in the west and rises in the east. Of course that won't help you a lot at high noon.
