I have to buy a new tv can anyone advise me?

The bloke in the shop said it has to be blue ray compatible as they will get rid of dvds soon is he telling the truth or just trying to get me to buy a more expensive tv? Also what is better LCD or plasma?I have to buy a new tv can anyone advise me?
The man in the shop is either a Fool or he takes you for one.

The current DVD format is not under any threat at all. The Blu-ray format will take at least 10 years to make DVD redundant because there are so many millions of them in existence.

Pretty well all new television sets are HD-Ready. This means that they are capable of displaying High Deffinition pictures provided that they come from a proper HD source.

At the moment the ONLY HD sources are Sky HD, Virgin HD, Freesat and Blu-ray disc (they call it BD for short).

Your conventional DVD player will feed your new HD-Ready tv set perfectly well through a SCART connector. The picture will be very good indeed.

Some DVD players offer ';HD Upscaling';. This gives a sort of pseudo-HD picture that is sent to the tv through an HDMI cable. The picture from that will not be true HD (because the regular DVD disc isn't recorded in that format) but it will be excellent. Go for this option if you can.

Proper High Definition from a Blue-ray disc will be even better again. These machines are expensive at the moment but will get cheaper eventually.I have to buy a new tv can anyone advise me?
He is full of crap. DVD will be around for a while yet. But you should look for one that is 1080p compliant with an HDMI connection as this will future proof you a bit.

LCD or Plasma is a very personal choice. Generally, I would say upto 40 inch go for LCD and plasma if you want anything bigger.
Any LCD or Plasma with a HDMI can show BLU-ray. DVD format will be around for a long time, the quality of DVD is superb on any TV. LCD HDTVs are best for screen sizes up to 32'; Plasma HDTvs are best if you go above 40'; the viewing angle is wider with plasmas.
the bloke is trying to get more money

lcd is best plasma tvs have burn in issues

also plasma tv uses more electricty
Man is just doing his sails pitch to gain as much money as possible.

I would look at tesco.com as they have excellent bargains on-line on electrical appliances.
Well HDMI is now being replaced by HDMI 3 which is probably what he means.

LCD or Plasma is a matter of taste view them both and decide which you prefer.
He is a lying retard.

LCD is better.

Just make sure it is an HD TV.
I suggest a colour TV.

Those things are apparently quite good.
